Softball heads to WKU

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team will hit the road for a day trip to Western Kentucky on Tuesday, March 23.

Tennessee State (6-11) will return to non-conference action with the doubleheader at Western Kentucky (15-9). TSU is most recently coming off of a, 1-1, split with OVC opponent Murray State this weekend.

Tennessee State swept a doubleheader with Belmont (8-4, 8-7) and split a twinbill with Murray State (1-8, 7-5) last week. Junior Brittany Webb led the team with five hits and four RBI last week. She reached base at least once in every game. Webb also recorded three doubles and scored three times. Freshman Hannah Schnebly went 2-0 in the circle to improve to 4-3 on the season. She didn't give up an earned run against Belmont and limited the Bruins to only two hits in the game.

Overall, TSU has a .230 batting average and an ERA of 4.49. Brittany Webb (.333) leads the team with 16 hits, seven doubles and seven RBI. Bridget Metzger (.333) has a team best .578 slugging percentage and 15 hits on the season, including seven for extra bases.

Hannah Schnebly (4-3) leads the TSU pitchers in wins while Kelly Troglin (0-0) has a team best 2.33 ERA. Megan Hedrick (1-4) leads the team with 23 strike outs.

Western Kentucky has won six straight contests, including two consecutive at home. WKU has a .267 batting average and a 2.17 team ERA. Kim Wagner (8-3) is the top pitcher for the Hilltoppers with a 1.59 ERA. She has 46 strikeouts in 70.1 innings pitched.

Mallorie Sulaski has a team best .432 batting average while Lindsay Antone (.338) leads the team 23 hits and 17 RBI.

Tennessee State will meet Western Kentucky for the 21st time in the series history with the Hilltoppers hold a commanding 18-2 series advantage. Last season, WKU swept TSU in a doubleheader at Tiger Field. The Tigers dropped a 3-2 decision in game one before suffering a 9-0 loss in the second game.

First pitch of Tuesday's doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m. at WKU softball field.
