Nashville --- Despite having the home field advantage, The Tennessee State University softball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Butler in its season opener before falling to Chattanooga 8-0 Friday afternoon, at Tiger Field.

Tennessee State (0-2) had five hits over both games with a batting average of  .114. Christy Hill tallied a team best two hits, including a double and notched a .500 batting average for the day.

After scoring in the first inning, Butler (1-0) grabbed an early 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs posted another run in the third inning to increase their lead to 3-0.

TSU cut down the deficit to 3-2 after a triple by Tamara Perkins sent two runs across the plate. That, however, would be as close as the Tigers would get as Butler went on to win 4-2.

Megan Hedrick (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Tigers.

TSU only had two hits and committed two errors in the 8-0 loss to Chattanooga (3-2).

The Lady Mocs posted four runs in the third inning to go ahead 5-0 and never looked back. Christy Hill and Bridget Metzger recorded hits for TSU while Hannah Schnebly (0-1) picked up the loss.

The Tigers will return to action tomorrow in the final two games of the APSU Classic on Tiger Field against IUPUI and Northern Iowa. Game times are at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. The APSU Classic will conclude on Sunday (2/21) in Clarksville with TSU slated to face Butler at 3 p.m.
