Nashville --- TSU assistant softball coach Tom Opdenbrouw has been selected as an umpire for the 2009 USSSA Fast Pitch World Series in Columbus, Ind. The World Series, for the 11 and 16B age group, will be held July 27- August 2.

Opdenbrouw is one of twenty-two umpires that were selected for the World Series from over eight hundred umpires certified in USSSA from around the country. This is Opdenbrouw's sixth straight selection. There will be over 90 teams from around the country competing for the title of World Series Champion.

The primary focus of United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Fastpitch is the development of programs that allow teams of all skill levels to compete against one another. USSSA believes the overall development of all players can be enhanced by the experience and fun of national tournament play.

"I am extremely blessed for this prestigious honor,” commented Opdenbrouw. “I am extremely thankful to USSSA, my fellow umpires, and my State Director for this opportunity. It is a first class spectacle event. The city of Columbus, Indiana opens their arms to all of the teams, umpires and spectators and makes this an event that is unforgettable. I am honored to be able to give back to the game of softball as well as give USSSA and all of these girls all of my effort, knowledge, and judgment as an umpire."
