Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team will take a brief break from Ohio Valley Conference play with a match-up against Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday.
TSU (11-27, 6-11 OVC) is coming off of a, 4-3, win over Tennessee Tech on Sunday. Tamara Perkins had a stellar performance for TSU going 3-of-4 at the plate with two doubles. She also scored a run and had one RBI for the Tigers. Bridget Metzger, who drove in the winning run, went 2-of-4 while Brooke Blackford, Jalisa Bradley and Kara Murr also recorded hits in the contest.
Overall, Brittany Webb (.315) leads the Tigers with 25 hits to go along with 19 RBI. Caitlin Eaton (.303) has a team best 21 RBI in addition to 30 hits on the season while Bridget Metzger (.300) has 30 hits, including eight for extra bases.
The Tigers have a .234 batting average and a 4.25 team ERA.
Middle Tennessee State (15-23, 5-13 Sun Belt) has lost eight of its last 10 games. The Blue Raiders are hitting .232 on the season and have a team earned run average of 3.54.
Corrie Abel leads the team with 39 hits and a .325 batting average. Natalie Ysais (.262) has a team best 19 RBI while Kelsey Dortch (.228) leads the team with four homeruns.
Lindsey Vander Lugt is the Blue Raiders' top pitcher. She has a 14-14 record and an era of 2.75.
Last season, MTSU swept TSU in a doubleheader at Tiger Field. The Tigers suffered a, 12-0, loss before dropping a, 3-0, decision to the Blue Raiders in game two. MTSU leads the overall series 36-5.
