Tennessee State fell to 11-29 overall while Middle Tennessee moved to 17-23.
TSU's seventh inning rally was halted as MTSU was able to hold on for the 3-2 game one win.
In the bottom half of the inning, MTSU's lead-off batter Corrie Abel singled up the middle then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. MTSU took a 1-0 lead when Abel scored behind a single through the left side.
Later in the inning, the Blue Raiders loaded the bases after a hit-by-pitch and a walk but Megan Hedrick was able to get out of the inning without any more runs scoring.
In the top of the third, Tamara Perkins knotted the game, 1-1, when she smashed a deep ball over the left centerfield fence for her fourth homerun of the season.
Hedrick got in trouble in the bottom of the third when a lead-off double, a hit-by-pitch and an error loaded the bases with no outs. The Blue Raiders regained the lead, 2-1, when the third base runner tagged up on a sacrifice fly and crossed the plate.
MTSU once again loaded the bases with only one out but Hedrick was able to work her way out of the jam and didn't allow anymore runs to score.
The Blue Raiders added another run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 3-1.
In the seventh inning, Tedra Alford got on base with a single to left field and moved to second when Kelly Troglin grounded out third base. Tamara Perkins reached on an error by the shortstop to put the tying run on base before a single down the left field line by Kelly Troglin scored Alford and moved Perkins to third. The next batter , Bridget Metzger, grounded out to third base to end the inning before TSU could score another run.
MTSU jumped on TSU pitcher Hannah Schnebly early in the first inning using five hits to score four runs. A single and a triple, followed by a squeeze bunt made the score 2-0 after only three batters. The Blue Raiders loaded the bases and used another hit to plate two more runs and increase the advantage to 4-0 before the inning ended.
The Tigers put together another rally in the top of the third, loading the bases with only one out. Jalisa Bradley walked to send Bridget Metzger across the plate and put TSU on the board. That, unfortunately, would be the only run scored as the next two batters popped up to end the TSU threat.
MTSU added two more runs in the sixth inning to make the lead 6-1 heading into the top of the seventh.
In the seventh inning, Hannah Schnebly smacked one to the right field fence for a lead-off double but the next three batters went down in order.
Hannah Schnebly (6-7) picked up the loss while Janele Robinson (2-6) earned the win for MTSU. Schnebly led TSU with two hits and went 2-for-3 at the plate while Jalisa Bradley recorded the team's only RBI of the contest.
The Tigers return to OVC action this weekend when they travel to face the Skyhawks of UT Martin in a three-game series.
