Thursday, July 23, 2009
Nashville --- Tennessee State University softball player Bridget Metzger is a recipient of the Ohio Valley Conference Medal of Honor. Metzger was the only Tiger student-athlete to receive the award.

Metzger is one of 123 Ohio Valley Conference student-athletes that received the Medal of Honor for the 2008-09 season. The Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athlete who achieves the highest grade point average in a Conference-sponsored sport. It marked the fifth straight year that over 100 different student-athletes received the award.

The 123 winners were the second-most in award history (trailing only the 136 winners from 2006-07). Most impressively, all of those student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Of those 123 award winners, 14 were awarded Medals of Honor for multiple sports.

Metzger, a native of Rochelle, Ill, received the TSU Academic Award for Softball and was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team this year.
