Nashville --- The Tiger softball team will kick-off Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend when they host Murray State in a three-game series, Saturday and Sunday.
The Tigers picked a couple of wins on Wednesday after sweeping visiting Belmont in a doubleheader at Tiger Field. TSU recorded a batting average of .288 over both games with a .411 slugging percentage. The Tigers finished the day with 15 hits, including six doubles as well as 12 RBI.
With the wins, TSU improved to 4-6 at home and 5-10 overall.
Brittany Webb (.326) and Bridget Metzger (.326) lead the team with 14 hits and six RBI. Seven of Webb's hits are doubles while eight of Metzger's have been for extra bases, six doubles, one triple and one homerun. Christy Hill (.263) and Tamara Perkins (.227) have tallied 10 hits apiece.
Murray State (4-10) has only won four games this season but the Racers are currently riding a two game win streak. MSU picked up a 10-2 win over Belmont before defeating SIU-Edwardsville, 9-1.
As a team, Murray State has a .230 batting average and a 5.70 ERA. Taylor Wilson (.385) and Megan Glosser (.238) lead the Racers with 10 hits while Jenna Bradley (.216) has a team best 11 RBI.
Kristen Broadway (3-2) has pitched the most innings for MSU and has a team best ERA of 3.25. She has 36 strikeouts on the season.
The series will mark the first meeting between Tennessee State and Murray State as this is MSU's first year having a softball program.
The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
