Richmond, Ky. --- The Tennessee State University softball team dropped the third game of the series, 2-1, to Eastern Kentucky Saturday at Gertrude Hood Field.
Tennessee State (9-18, 4-6 OVC) tallied six hits and stranded six runners on base while Eastern Kentucky (10-22, 5-5 OVC) registered seven hits and had seven runners left on base.
The Tigers rallied for a run in the top of the first to take an early lead. Singles from Bridget Metzger and Brittany Webb along with a sacrifice bunt from Tamara Perkins led to runners on the corners for TSU. A ground ball by Caitlin Eaton allowed Metzger to score and give TSU a 1-0 lead.
EKU got on the board and tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the fifth when a double from Diane Gallagher drove in a run.
Unfortunately, the Tigers went down in order in the top of the seventh before a line drive up the middle scored the winning run for the Colonels in their half of the frame.
Caitlin Eaton was charged the loss for Tennessee State. Eaton threw four strikeouts and allowed four walks in 6.2 innings pitched. Stacye Toups (5-3) picked up the win for EKU and allowed one run on six hits in seven innings of work.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, April 6, when they host Chattanooga in a doubleheader. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Tiger Field.
