Tennessee Tech up next for softball

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University Tigers will look to move up in the OVC standings this weekend when they host the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech in a three-game series.

Currently, Tennessee State (10-25, 5-9 OVC) is sitting in eighth place along with Tennessee Tech (16-24, 5-9 OVC). With four conference series remaining, the Tigers will look to make a run towards the top six down the stretch.

The Tigers have lost eight of their last nine contests including a, 2-1, loss to Austin Peay in extra innings on Wednesday. On Saturday, TSU returns to Tiger Field where the team has a 7-12 record this season.

TSU leads the OVC in fielding percentage with a league-low 36 errors on the year. The Tigers are ranked eighth in batting and ninth in pitching.

Caitlin Eaton leads the team with a .319 batting average and a .500 slugging percentage. She has 30 hits, including two doubles and three homeruns. Brittany Webb (.317) has a team best 33 hits to go along with 11 doubles and 19 RBI.

As a team, TSU has an earned run average of 4.27. Hannah Schnebly (3.87) leads the team with five wins.

Last season, TSU split the first doubleheader at TTU claiming the first game, 2-0, before dropping a 4-3 decision. The Tigers defeated the Golden Eagles, 4-3, at Tiger Field to capture the season series, 2-1.  Tennessee Tech leads the overall series 45-8.

TTU has dropped three of its last four and is most recently coming off of an, 8-5, loss to Jacksonville State on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles are third in the league in fielding percentage (.958), fifth in pitching (3.35) and seventh in batting (.239).

Erin Cutlip leads the team with a .333 batting average while Melody Christian (.301) leads the team with 37 hits and 25 runs. Kaliegh Gates (.320) and Chanelle Spalding (.319) are also among the team's offensive leaders.

Maddi Schmissrauter (6-7) has a team best 2.14 earned run average while Holly Thomas has a 3.62 era and leads the team with eight wins.

First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m. while Sunday's single game will begin at noon.
