Late run lifts Butler past Tennessee State

Clarksville --- Butler scored the game winning run in the seventh inning to defeat the Tennessee State University softball team 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Lady Govs field.

Jennifer Culberson and Bridget Metzger led TSU with two hits apiece. Culberson also recorded a stolen base and crossed the plate twice. Megan Hedrick was charged with the loss. She only allowed one earned run and threw four strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched.

The Tigers got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Jennifer Culberson and Tamara Perkins crossed the plate for TSU.

The Bulldogs answered with a run in the top of the second and third inning to knot the score 2-2.

BU briefly took the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fifth but TSU responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame.

Butler scored what would go on to be the winning run in the top of the seventh.

As a team, Tennessee State hit .348 and tallied eight hits. The Tigers committed one error and left five stranded on base.

TSU returns to action on Wednesday, Feb.24 at Western Kentucky. The double header is scheduled for 3 p.m.
