Softball Splits at Rebel Spring Games

Kissimmee --- The Tennessee State University softball team fell to Lehigh, 4-0, before downing St. Bonaventure, 2-1, at the Rebel Spring Games Tournament.


Tennessee State moves to 8-8 on the season.


Lehigh took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning and added three insurance runs in the sixth to push the score to 4-0.


The Tigers tallied six hits in the contest and stranded nine runners on base against Lehigh.


In the second game of the tournament, St. Bonaventure captured a 1-0 lead in top of the third inning and held on to the advantage until the seventh.


Caitlin Eaton led the frame off with a walk. Kristin Powell came in to pinch run for Eaton and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jalisa Bradley. Powell moved to third on a passed ball before scoring the tying run on a Melanie Cruz ground out.


With two outs, Jennifer Culberson singled to keep the inning alive before stealing second to get in scoring position. Nichole Vincent delivered the game-winning hit, plating Culberson to make the final score 2-1.Megan Hedrick picked up the complete game win for TSU and recorded a season-best six strikeouts in the contest. She held the Bonnies to only five hits and no earned runs.


The Tigers will begin OVC play on Friday, March 13 at Eastern Illinois when they face the Panthers.
