Tigers Drop Both Games by One Run

Orlando, Fla. – In the second day of competition at the UCF Invitational, the Tigers dropped both of their games by one run losing to Florida A&M, 3-2, and Eastern Michigan, 10-9, on Saturday.

Tennessee State - 2, Florida A&M - 3

Four Tigers were left on base and two errors resulted in Florida A&M runs as TSU (7-5) dropped their second straight in the Invitational. For the game, TSU hit 6-of-24 posting a .250 batting average for one RBI.

Megan Hedrick (1-4) got the start in the circle throwing three strikeouts in six innings pitched without giving up an earned run. At the plate, Caitlin Eaton hit 2-of-2 with one RBI with Royesha Goodman and Jill Gardner going 1-of-2.

TSU jumped on the board first in the top of the second from an Eaton run before FAMU (4-13) answered with two runs at the bottom of the inning to take the lead, 2-1.

In a tightly fought game, FAMU scored another run in the fourth ining for a 3-1 lead. In the sixth inning, Eaton singled to left field scoring in a run narrowing the lead, 3-2. The Tigers had a chance to tie or take the lead at the top of the second, but grounded, singled, and popped out leaving one runner stranded on base.

Tennessee State - 9, Eastern Michigan - 3

With the scored tied 9-9, the Tigers (7-6) gave up one run in the bottom of seventh dropping their third straight Saturday evening to Eastern Michigan.

Tamara Perkins hit 3-of-4 with three RBI's and Jalisa Bradley batted 2-of-3 for another three runs batted in. Brittany Webb went 1-of-4 for a double scoring in three runs.

Kelly Troglin started but saw 1.2 innings of action giving up two earned runs. Susie Burke in relief  but suffered woes in the circle giving up five hits and five earned runs.

TSU held the lead 3-1 after the first inning, scoring three more runs in the second and third innings. The Eagles (4-8) scored one run in the bottom of the first but opened up in the bottom of the second scoring six runs. In the fifth, EMU tacked on two more runs to tie the score 9-9.

Caitlin Eaton stepped in relief in the fifth throwing six strikeouts while keeping the Tigers afloat. Megan Hedrick (1-5) relieved Eaton with the score tied, 9-9, giving up an earned run and was credited for the loss.

The Tigers will close out the UCF Invitational when they play Syracuse University on Sunday, March 1st, at 9:30 a.m.
