The Tigers (6-1) completed the tournament in second place with a 4-1 record behind host 16th-ranked Georgia.
Down 7-4 in the sixth inning, Royesha Goodman singled to left to bring in one run and Nichole Vincent singled to right center driving in two more to even the score, 7-7. After a scorless seventh, the Tigers trailed 8-7 in the bottom of the eighth, Goodman doubled to right center bringing in a run before a walk with bases loaded gave TSU the winning score.
Marshall (7-6) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead scoring runs in the first and second innings. TSU scored in the second from a Goodman single. The Thundering Herd put up two more more runs in the third and fourth inning and the Tigers answered with a score from a throwing error and a Caitlin Eaton two-run homer to right field.
Goodman led the offense hitting 3-of-4 (.750) with three runs batted in. Eaton (4-0) relieved Megan Hedrick (1-1) in the seventh with the score tied to pick up her third win of the tournament .
Eaton threw two strike outs with one coming in the seventh inning with two outs, stranding runners on third and second, before giving up a run in the top of the eighth. Eaton picked up her fourth win of the season while also going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Hedrick pitched five innings giving up three runs with one strike out. Kelly Troglin got the start on the mound but gave up hree earned runs on four hits in the first two innings. Troglin stepped down midway in the second with no outs and was relieved by Hedrick.
In the tournament, TSU batted a combined .264 average with 27 runs including four homers holding their opponents to 22 runs and a .284 batting average.
Offensively, Eaton paved the way with a .438 batting average (7-of-16), three runs-batted-in and two home runs. On the mound, Eaton posted a 2.00 era in 14 innings pitched with 15 strike outs.
Royesha Goodman (.400), Christy Hill (.385) and Brittany Webb (.300) posted solid numbers at the plate combining for seven runs-batted-in and four doubles. Tamara Perkins added two home runs and a team-high five runs-batted-in with a .231 batting average.
Next, the Tigers will host Belmont University in their season home opener at Tiger Field on Wednesday, February 25th, at 1 p.m.
