Friday, December 12, 2008

Nashville ---Tennessee State University head softball Coach Joyce Maudie inked six players for the 2009-2010 season during the early signing period.

“I am very excited about this 2009 signing class,” said coach Maudie. “We were very diligent and selective about finding talented athletes who were the right fit for Tennessee State University.”

All six future Tigers are slated to graduate from their respective high schools in the spring of 2009.

Joining the softball program next year will be Tedra Alford, a pitcher/shortstop from Tiffin, Georgia; Brooke Blackford, a catcher/second baseman from Garland, Texas; and Katye Brown, a catcher/first baseman from Johnson City, Tennessee.

Also joining the squad for next season will be Kellie Quarles, a catcher/first baseman from Louisville, Kentucky; Hannah Schnebly, a pitcher from Weatherford, Texas; and Jasmine Tipton, an outfielder from Antioch, Tennessee.

“We sought out individuals who are willing to work hard on the field and in the classroom and who are committed to helping us achieve our goals of attaining an OVC championship,” Maudie continued.  “These young ladies have excelled on the softball diamond and in many other areas of their lives.”

“They are leaders and women of great character, who come from outstanding families. I have enjoyed getting to know them through the recruiting process and am excited about what each of them brings to the softball program and to Tennessee State University.  I welcome them into the Tiger family and am looking forward to a promising future together.”
