Tigers versus Belmont in Season Home Opener

The Tigers (6-1) come off a 4-1 record at the Sixth-Annual Georgia Softball Classic defeating IUPUI, 8-0, (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis), UNC Greensboro, 6-3, Ball State, 4-3, and Marshall, 9-8 in eight innings. Their only loss came at the hands of host, 16th-ranked, University of Georgia. A week earlier, TSU opened the season sweeping Alabama A&M, 12-4, 14-0.
The Tigers are led by pitcher Caitlin Eaton (4-0) who has posted a 2.58 ERA on the season. Eaton on the offense, is batting .478 with four home runs and six RBI's. Kara Murr (.500), Brittany Webb (.429), Royesha Goodman (.409) and Christy Hill (.333) have been productive at the plate combining for eight doubles and 14 RBI's.
This will be the 22nd meeting between the teams, with the Bruins (6-4) holding the series, 13-7, winning last year's match-up 4-1 at Aquinas Filed on April 8, 2008. They are off a 4-1 showing at the Holiday Inn Eagle Classic. The Bruins are fueld by the hitting of Julie Harmon (.455) and Elly Bennett (.435). Devon Schmidt (5-3) has posted the best record on the mound for Belmont with a 3.03 ERA.
On deck, the Tigers will head to the University of Central Florida Invitational this week, February 26 - March 3.
