Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team wrapped up the fall exhibition season with two games at Lipscomb University, dropping a 5-2 decision in game one before falling 4-2 in the second contest.

In game one, the Bisons posted runs in each of the first three innings and added two in the fourth.  In the bottom half of the fourth, an RBI double by sophomore Brittany Webb plated freshman Jen Culberson to put the Tigers on the scoreboard.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh a solo homerun over the left field wall by Caitlin Eaton sparked a late rally by the Tigers. Following the homerun, two back-to-back singles from Royesha Goodman and Jalisa Bradley brought the tying run to the plate but the Bisons were able to keep the Tigers at bay as a fly ball out ended the game.

TSU captured an early lead in the second game following a single by junior Tamara Perkins and a two-run homerun from sophomore Nichole Vincent.

Freshman hurler, Susie Burke was strong through the first three innings giving up just one hit until Lipscomb tied the game 2-2 after a two-run homerun.  The Bisons posted two more runs in the sixth inning. The Tigers were able to get on base in the top of the seventh with only one out but the Bisons held on for the 4-2 win.

“It was a very productive fall season for our team,” commented Head Coach Joyce Maudie.  “Our young pitchers transitioned well and got some valuable experience in the circle.  I was also pleased with the defensive consistency shown throughout the fall, particularly since we experimented with so many different lineups.”

“Six different players hit home runs in eight games, which was encouraging to see,” she continued.  “We believe we can be very dynamic offensively and though we still have a lot of work to do, we are making progress.  We learned a lot about ourselves and have a good assessment of what we need to do to continue to improve.”
