Softball Salvages Split at SEMO

Cape Girardeau, Mo.--- After dropping the opening game 5-2, the Tennessee State University softball team handed Southeast Missouri its first home loss of the season with a 3-2 win in game two.


The game two victory marks the first time that TSU (13-22, 5-8 OVC) has won at the Southeast Softball Complex. SEMO moves to 16-18, 6-7 OVC.


Tennessee State struck first after Brittany Webb singled to right field to plate Jennifer Gregory in the first. The Tigers would hold on to lead until Southeast Missouri scored three runs off four hits in the bottom of the fourth. TSU responded with another run in the top of the 5th to cut the deficit to 3-2 but that would be the Tigers’ last run of the game.


The Redhawks posted two more runs in the bottom of the fifth in route to the 5-2 win. Amanda Vaught (10-14) was tagged with the loss while Brittany Webb led TSU with two RBI’s.


Tennessee State once again grabbed an early lead in game two following a run scoring single from Brittany Webb. Southeast answered in the home half of the inning with a run to even the score.


TSU reclaimed the lead (2-1) in the top of the second but SEMO responded with another run in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at 2. TSU scored the final run of the game in the fourth. Jalisa Bradley singled and advanced to second on the throw. She then moved over to third on a hit to right field by Nicole Vincent before stealing home.


Lauren Weber (3-3) picked up her third win of the season.


Both teams will meet tomorrow to play the final game of the series. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
