TSU moves to 7-16 (1-4 OVC) while EKU remains undefeated in the league with an OVC mark of 5-0, 15-7 overall.
Adriel Foxley gave the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning following a solo homerun to center field. The Tigers struggled to get on base before a fourth inning single through the left side by Tamara Perkins broke a string of 10 consecutive batters retired by EKU pitcher Stacye Toups.
Perkins advanced to second on a wild pitch before moving over to third on a groundout by Bridget Metzger. The Tigers, however, would leave Perkins stranded. EKU added to its advantage in the bottom of the fourth and went ahead 2-0.
With two outs in the seventh inning, a single by Melanie Cruz sparked a TSU rally that saw the Tigers fire off three consecutive hits. Following a hit by Kelsey Ferguson, Cruz scored behind a single up the middle from Amanda Vaught. With runners on second and third and Christy Hill at the plate, Toups threw a game ending strikeout.
TSU grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second game but EKU would use a seven run, five hit inning to come from behind and capture the win.
Following three consecutive hits from Perkins, Metzger, and Brown and with the bases loaded, Webb walked to send home TSU’s first run of the game. A sacrifice fly by Cruz would bring home another run and give TSU a 2-0 advantage.
EKU cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second inning but TSU re-upped the lead to 3-1 after Cruz scored off of a Vaught RBI.
Five hits and three TSU errors led to EKU posting seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Colonels scored their ninth run of the game in the sixth inning as EKU went on to win 9-3.
