TSU Falls to Chattanooga in Double Header
Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Nashville---The Tennessee State University softball team dropped two contests (1-0, 8-1) to UT-Chattanooga Wednesday evening in a double header at Tiger Field.

UTC struck first in the third inning, posting one run off of one hit and one TSU error. The Tigers were hitless until Tamara Perkins doubled to left center in the bottom of the fourth. Pitcher Brooke Loudermilk, however, would retire the next two batters, leaving Perkins stranded on second.

Loudermilk limited the Tigers to no hits in the final three innings of the game, retiring nine straight, as the Lady Mocs went on to win game one 1-0.

UTC recorded 13 hits in the game two win.

In the top of the 3rd, Michelle Fuzzard singled to right field to score UTC’s first run of the game before a two-run homerun by Toni Hutchinson upped the lead to 3-0.

With two outs in the top of the 5th, Chattanooga grabbed a 5-0 lead behind a two-run shot from Katie Blevins. That prompted a pitching change as Ashley Block came in for Amanda Vaught. Block gave up two back to back hits but retired the next batter she faced to get out of the inning without anymore runs scoring.

UTC recorded two more runs in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead. TSU got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Christy Hill singled up the middle to plate Jennifer Gregory.

That would be TSU’s only run of the game as UTC would go on to win 8-1.

Tennessee State moves to 10-18 while Chattanooga improves to 21-14 on the season.

The Tigers next to Alabama to face the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State in OVC action on Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30.
