Martin, Tenn. ---- Despite a late seventh inning two-run homerun by Caitlen Eaton, TSU dropped the series finale 3-2 to UTM Sunday afternoon at Bettye Giles Field.

Tennessee State (15-31, 7-14 OVC) recorded four hits in the game while Tennessee- Martin (21-23, 7-8 OVC) posted six hits in the contest.

Eaton led TSU with two RBI’s and recorded her first homerun of the season. Lauren Weber (4-5) was marked with the loss for TSU.

The Skyhawks grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Megan Van Arsdale hit a solo home run to right field before two doubles led to the second run. UTM posted another run in the top of the sixth inning when Savannah Roberts hit a solo shot to left field.

Hurler Paij Lintz kept the Tiger offense in check for six innings. But trailing by three runs in the top of the seventh, TSU rallied. Jalisa Bradley led the inning off with a walk before Caitlen Eaton came in to pinch hit and knocked a homerun over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Two hits and a walk would lead to TSU loading the bases with two outs but Lintz threw her sixth strikeout of the game to strand the runners on base and seal the win.

TSU will next host non-conference opponent Lipscomb on Tuesday, April 22 in a doubleheader at Tiger Field.
