Softball Edges Austin Peay 1-0
Sunday, April 13, 2008

Nashville --- Under a slightly overcast sky, the Tennessee State University softball team handed Austin Peay a 1-0 loss to claim the series Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.

With the win, TSU moves to 15-26 (7-11 OVC) while APSU falls to 7-26 (3-13 OVC).

Lauren Weber and Amanda Vaught limited the Lady Govs to only three hits between them and only yielded three walks in the shut-out.

Similar to game two of the series, Sunday’s game was scoreless through the first five and a half innings. Austin Peay used a hit, a TSU error and a walk to load the bases in the top of the fifth, prompting a pitching change. Amanda Vaught came in to relieve Lauren Weber and retired the next two batters to get out of the inning unscathed.

TSU posted the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Jennifer Gregory tripled to right center setting up a run-scoring single up the middle from Tamara Perkins.

Austin Peay seemed to be on the verge of a comeback in the top of the seventh with a lead off double but Vaught was able to pitch her way out of the inning as the Lady Govs stranded two runners on base.

Vaught (11-18) picked up the win while Tamara Perkins recorded the only RBI of the game. Jennifer Gregory went 2-for-3 from the plate.

TSU returns to action on Tuesday, April 15, at Western Kentucky. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
