Cookeville, Tenn. --- Tennessee Tech used a two-run homerun in the seventh inning to capture a 4-2 win over Tennessee State Wednesday evening at Tech Softball Field.

Tennessee State (13-25, 5-10 OVC) tallied four hits while Tennessee Tech (22-23, 6-7 OVC) registered seven.

A solo homerun by Tech’s Beth Boden gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

TSU got on the board in the third posting two runs to capture a 2-1 lead. Nichole Vincent got things started with a walk to get on base. Jennifer Gregory then singled down the right field line and advanced to third on the throw. The Gregory hit also moved Vincent over to third before scoring on a throwing error by the right fielder.

The Tigers took the lead when Bridget Metzger singled up the middle to plate Gregory. The Golden Eagles, however, answered with a run in their half of the inning to knot the game at 2-2.

The next three innings were scoreless. TSU threatened to score in the top of the seventh with a runner in scoring position but was unable to post another run.

With one out and a runner on base, a homerun to center field gave Tech a 4-2 lead and ended the game.

Gregory was 2-for-3 with one RBI for TSU. Bridget Metzger also recorded an RBI.

Tennessee State will next host Austin Peay in a double-header on Saturday, April 12. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
