Knoxville, Tenn.--- The Tennessee State University softball team dropped two contests to the University of Tennessee (1-9, 1-4) Wednesday evening at the Lee Softball Stadium.

TSU moves to 6-12 overall while UT improves to 22-3.

No. 6 Tennessee fired 10 hits and stole six bases as the Lady Vols routed Tennessee State, 9-1, in the first game of the doubleheader.

UT jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third following three runs on three hits.

The Tigers only score came in the top of the fourth as a walk and consecutive singles from second baseman Jennifer Gregory and Goodman brought shortstop Bridget Metzger across the plate to cut their deficit to 4-1. But UT would keep TSU at bay.

In the second game, UT posted runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to capture a 4-0 advantage. In the seventh and final inning, Nicole Vincent led off with a walk before a sacrifice fly by Jennifer Gregory brought her home.  The Tigers would leave two runners on base in route to the 4-1 loss.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 15 when they host Eastern Illinois in a double-header.
