Tigers Drop Series Finale to Redhawks

Cape Girardeau, Mo.--- Tennessee State dropped the series finale 6-3 to Southeast Missouri Sunday afternoon at the Southeast Softball Complex.

 

Tennessee State falls to 12-23 (5-9 OVC) while Southeast Missouri improves to 17-18 (7-7 OVC).

 

Royesha Goodman led TSU with three RBI’s while Jennifer Gregory had two hits on four at bats. Vaught (10-15) received the loss.

 

Jennifer Gregory opened the game with a lead off single to center field. Bridget Metzger reached on a fielder’s choice and Gregory was thrown out at second before a Redhawk error put Tamara Perkins on first base and advanced Metzger to third.

 

Perkins then moved over to second on a stolen base. With two runners in scoring position, Royesha Goodman singled up the middle to give TSU a 2-0 lead.

 

A solo homerun by SEMO’s Michelle Summers in the bottom of the first cut the TSU lead down to 2-1. The Redhawks then added four more runs in the bottom of the third behind a grand slam from Jennifer Vasquez.  In the bottom of the fourth, Southeast posted another run to capture a 6-2 advantage.

 

The Tigers struck for a run in the sixth to make it 6-3 and threatened in the seventh with two runners in scoring position but Redhawk pitcher Elaine Fisher got out of the inning without anymore runs scoring. 

 

TSU returns to action on Wednesday, April 9 at OVC opponent Tennessee Tech. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
