Nashville--- The Tennessee State University softball team traveled to Florida and California over Spring Break to participate in the Miken Classic and the National Invitational Softball Tournament.
In the Miken Classic, hosted by Florida Atlantic, the Tigers faced host FAU dropping a 1-9 decision to the Owls on day one of the tournament. Tennessee State then lost to Bethune Cookeman (0-6) and Rutgers (1-9) before splitting with Central Michigan. Amanda Vaught picked up the 3-1 win over CMU before a 1-10 loss to the Chippewas on the following day.
Tennessee State joined six other participating teams at the 22nd annual National Invitational Softball Tournament (NIST) hosted by San Jose State University. TSU opened the NIST with a 2-4 loss to host San Jose State. The Tigers also dropped the rematch 1-7. TSU fell to California (1-3) and Nevada (0-6) before closing out the tournament with a 4-0 win over Northern Iowa.
Vaught threw nine strikeouts in the shut-out and only surrendered three hits.
The Tigers move to 6-10 on the season and will next travel to Knoxville, TN to face the UT Lady Vols on Wednesday, March 12. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. est.
