Nashville --- Tennessee State softball dropped a 2-1 decision to Morehead State before falling to the Eagles 7-2 in game two of the doubleheader Saturday night at Tiger Field.

Tennessee State falls to 16-37, 8-18 OVC while Morehead improves to 32-14, 15-9 OVC.

After reaching base on a walk, Bri Jones scored all the way from first when Courtney Seiler doubled to left field in the first. The Eagles posted another run following a TSU error in the top of the third to capture a 2-0 lead.

TSU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Bridget Metzger plated on a single to the left side by Katie Anderson. That, however, would be the Tigers’ only run of the game.

TSU placed a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, but ended up stranding two runners on base as MSU went on to win 2-1.

Amanda Vaught (11-24) only yielding one earned run and threw four strikeouts in the loss.

Game two was plagued with errors as both teams combined for a total of nine miscues.

Morehead scored the first run of the game in the top of the first but Tennessee State answered in the bottom half of the frame to even the game1-1 when Jennifer Gregory plated on a sacrifice fly from Caitlin Eaton.

MSU used a TSU error to reclaim the lead (2-1) in the second but the Tigers took advantage of two Eagle errors to once again knot the score (2-2) as Ebon Jones crossed the plate in the bottom of the third.

The Eagles tacked on three more runs off of two hits and three Tiger errors in the top of the fourth before extending the lead to 7-2 in the top of the fifth.

Lauren Weber (5-8) was tagged with the loss while Morehead hurler Kari Quinn (11-6) threw seven strikeouts and only allowed four hits.

TSU will conclude the series against Morehead tomorrow in the final home game of the season. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
