In game one, UTM pitcher Piaj Lintz and Tiger hurler Amanda Vaught battled it out for almost the entire game. Both pitchers held the opposing bats in check until the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Greer Long and Megan Williams hit back to back homeruns to give the Skyhawks the advantage.
Vaught (11-20) recorded seven strikouts while Lintz (6-7) threw 12 strikeouts in the shutout. Jennifer Gregory was a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the plate for TSU.
In the second game of the double header,
The Skyhawks answered in their half of the inning with four runs on five hits to capture the lead.
Caitlen Eaton doubled to center field to open the fourth inning then advanced to third on a single by Jalisa Bradley. Bradley, however, was tagged out at second attempting to stretch the hit into a double. Nicole Vincent then popped a foul ball up near the dead ball area for the second out of the inning but Eaton was awarded home according to the catch and carry rule.
With the game tied 4-4, Ashley Benbow connected on a solo homerun to center field. The Skyhawks added another run in the sixth in route to the 6-4 win.
Vaught was tagged with the loss while Brittany Webb led TSU with three RBI’s.
