Lauren Weber (5-7) was credited with the loss as Margaret Carter (4-8) picked up the win for Samford.
The Samford bats came alive early as the Bulldogs posted four runs off of four hits in the first inning. The Tigers responded in their half of the frame to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Jennifer Gregory christened the inning with a double to right center and advanced to third when Tamara Perkins singled. She later crossed home on a run scoring walk by Royesha Goodman. Perkins tagged and scored on a sacrifice fly from Brittany Webb. Bridget Metzger scored TSU’s third and final run of the game when Caitlen Eaton singled down the right field line.
Samford added another run in the second before plating two more runs in the fourth, increasing its lead to 7-3. With the bases loaded in the top of the 6th, Amanda Barrs doubled to left field to clear the bases. The next batter hit a two-run homer to left field to swell the Samford lead to 12-3.
TSU loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but Samford kept the Tigers at bay.
The Tigers will host Morehead in the final series of the season next weekend. Game one is scheduled for Saturday, May 3. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
