TENNESSEE STATE SOFTBALL FALLS TO MOREHEAD IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Murfreesboro, Tenn.--For the second straight time in as many days the Tennessee State softball team lost to Morehead State. The Tigers dropped a 4-3 contest to the Eagles in the championship game of the MT Breast Cancer Strike Out Classic. As in the previous contest, the Eagles took advantage of an error that led to two unearned runs in the first inning. The Tigers (10-2) would cut the lead to 2-1 in the third inning on a two-out single by freshman Tamara Perkins that brought home junior Katie Anderson. But MSU (5-4) would add two more runs in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 4-1. Perkins struck again in the fifth inning with a two-run single to score senior Diana Clifford and Jennifer Gregory to bring the Tigers within one run at 4-3. That is as close as TSU would get as Morehead reliever Sarah Funston retired the final eight batters of the game. Candace Hildebrand (5-2) took the loss allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks. TSU returns home for a doubleheader with Central Arkansas on Wednesday, February 28. First pitch with the Bears is set for 2 p.m. at Tiger Field.
