JACKSON, Miss.-Tennessee State University picked up a pair of wins on the first day of the Jackson State Classic by defeating Alabama State 4-1 and host Jackson State 8-3. TSU improves their record to 4-0 on the young season. In the first game of the day, the Tigers used a four-run third inning to slide past Alabama State. Senior pitcher Candace Hildebrand (2-0) extended her win streak to five, throwing a complete game scattering nine hits and allowing just one earned run. Hildebrand helped her cause at the plate with a two-run double in the third, driving in Jennifer Gregory and Tamara Perkins. Catcher Erin Finneran followed with a single to plate Hildebrand. Bridget Metzger led the Tigers in game one with two hits, including her first career double. In game two, TSU used four doubles and a homerun to power past Jackson State. Finneran extended her hitting streak to seven games going 3-for-4, including a three-run homerun in the fifth inning. Metzger, Tamara Perkins, Melanie Cruz, and Lauren Weber each doubled for the Tigers. Katie Anderson finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Weber worked five innings and picked up her first win of the season. Amanda Vaught threw the final two innings striking out three Tigers. TSU will conclude the Jackson State Classic with a game against Grambling State at 9 a.m. followed by a spot in the championship game at 3 p.m. The Tigers will face the winner of the Alabama State-Jackson State game that is to be played at 11 a.m.
