TSU SOFTBALL TEAM DROPS OVC OPENERS AT JAX STATE
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- Tennessee State dropped a tough 4-3 first game decision to Jacksonville State and then was the victim of a six-inning perfect game in an 8-0 loss in the nightcap as the Tigers saw their six game winning streak come to an end. TSU (12-12) led 3-2 in the first game, but the Gamecocks pushed across two runs in the fifth inning and were able to on for the one-run win. In the second game, JSU scored eight runs over the final three innings and Christine Pierce threw only 51 pitches in posting the victory. Nira Robbins led off the first game with a home run, her third of the season, extending her hitting streak to 12 games. Leena Worrell had a two-out homer in the fourth that tied the game at 2-2. Worrell drove in her 24th run of the season on her third homer. Robbins two-out single in the fifth scored Ebon Jones to give TSU a 3-2 lead. However, JSU responded with two runs in the fifth. The Tigers had runners on in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not push across the tying run. Candace Hildebrand (3-4) took the complete game pitching loss. In the second game, TSU could not muster any offense off of Pierce. Catcher Allie Barker had four RBI for JSU (20-7). Starter Samantha Hurst (5-3) took the loss for TSU. The teams conclude the three-game series Sunday with a single game.
