TIGERS DROP PAIR TO FIRST-PLACE JAX STATE
NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tennessee State dropped a pair of games to Ohio Valley Conference regular season champion Jacksonville, 9-0 and 9-1 Saturday night. TSU (8-35, 2-21 OVC) will close out its season Sunday at 1 p.m. with a single game against the Gamecocks (39-14, 21-4). JSU will host the OVC Tournament which begins Thursday. In the first game, JSU pitcher Carly Kellam ran her record to 22-6 by tossing a one-hit shutout. TSU's Leena Worrell broke up Kellam's bid for the no-hitter with a fourth-inning single to left center. The Gamecocks built a 9-0 lead after the first three innings. The first five hitters in JSU's lineup had a pair of hits each. Cleanup batter Maigin Alexander was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Daniela Pappano and Breanne Oleman each added two RBI. In the second game, TSU grabbed an early 1-0 lead after Jessica Sesson had a two-out hit to score Worrell. JSU answered with two runs in both the second and third innings and put the game away with a four-run fourth frame. TSU was guilty of five errors in the game. Pappano was 2-for-4 in the second game with a RBI and Whitney Elder was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Oleman had a two-run single in the fourth. Christine Pierce pitched the first four innings to run her record to 12-7. Sesson was 2-for-2 in the second game for TSU while leadoff batter Heather Ebersole was 2-for-3.
