TSU HELD TO SINGLE RUNS IN EACH GAME AS MOREHEAD STATE TAKES DOUBLEHEADER
MOREHEAD, Ky. --- The Tennessee State softball team was limited to single runs in each game as host Morehead State defeated the Tigers 7-1 and 5-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon. TSU had a good chance to take the early lead in the first game, loading the bases with one out in the first inning, but could not push across a run. Morehead State took advantage of its chances in the first, scoring three runs, aided by a costly error. Trailing 5-0, TSU got on the board in the fifth inning. Brittani Phillips singled to right and moved around the bases to third after a wild pitch and sacrifice bunt. She scored after a misplayed ball hit to the pitching circle. TSU freshman Ebon Jones pitched an inning of relief in her first college pitching appearance in relief of starter Tarah Evanisko. In the second game, Morehead State broke open a close game with three runs in the sixth inning to build a 5-0 advantage. Kristina Blair allowed two earned runs in five innings of work. TSU freshman Jessica Sesson hit a solo home run to right field to end the shutout. TSU had five hits in the first game and four in the nightcap. The teams conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m..
