TSU SOFTBALL DROPS OVC HOME OPENERS
NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State could not hold a first game lead and visiting Tennessee-Martin got a two-hit shutout in the nightcap to complete a doubleheader sweep, 9-3 and 3-0, over the Tigers in Ohio Valley Conference softball play Friday afternoon. TSU, playing at home for just the second time this season, led the Skyhawks 3-2 after four innings in the first game, but UT Martin scored four runs in the fifth and added three more runs in the seventh inning en route to the win. Heather Ebersole had a first inning RBI double and Nira Robbins had a second inning solo home run for the Tigers, her third of the season. After UTM tacked on a run in the fourth, Jade Savusa had a RBI double to extend the Tigers' lead back to two runs. Bandy Whalen was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and stole four bases for UTM in the opener. Kristin Runyan had a two-run homer in the four-run fifth for the Skyhawks. Nicole Davis pitched the complete game to run her record to 8-1. In the second game, Robbins had a first-inning double and Hollie Sanders single were the only hits allowed by UTM's Megan Mizell, who ran her record to 6-3. Mizell helped her own cause with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with one RBI. TSU's Kristina Blair did not allow a run after the third inning and scattered seven hits in taking the complete game defeat. TSU (2-17, 0-5) and UTM (17-7, 5-1) wrap up the three-game series Saturday at 1 p.m.
