NASHVILLE --- Wet field conditions and a rainy forecast forced cancellation of Tennessee State's softball doubleheader at Mississippi Valley State scheduled for Tuesday. The Tigers will now focus on having a good week of practice heading into the Ohio Valley Conference opening series at Samford this weekend. TSU returned home on Saturday from its trip to the Orlando, Fla., area for the Rebel games. Coach Joyce Maudie says she is looking forward to a good week of practice. "We have some things to work and this will be a good week for us," said the TSU head coach. "We lost some tough games, because we did not execute and hopefully we can iron things off this week." The Tigers were 1-7 on the Florida trip with a couple of games rained out. However, the Tigers were in all of the games with exception of a game against a strong Creighton team where they were defeated 8-0. Three of the defeats were by one run and another by two runs. TSU will look to improve on its team batting average of .222. The Tigers are hitting .192 with runners in scoring position. The team also has been hurt by costly errors. Leena Worrell is off to a .357 start at plate while Hollie Sanders is hitting .314. The Tigers did get some strong pitching, especially from junior Kristina Blair. Blair did not allow an earned run in 15 innings worked. Blair's earned run average stands at 2.25. Samford begins the week with a 7-10 overall record. The Bulldogs play a doubleheader at nationally-ranked Alabama prior to the visit by TSU.
