TIGERS EDGED IN DECISIVE GAME IN AUSTIN PEAY SERIES

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State managed just two hits and the visiting Austin Peay Lady Govs recorded a 3-0 victory in the rubber game of a three-game Ohio Valley Conference softball series Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field. (TSU (13-27, 2-7) saw the Lady Govs (15-25, 5-8) score single runs in the first, second, and fifth innings to back up the outstanding pitching of freshman Natsha Anderson. Anderson recorded 13 strikeouts in improving her record to 11-6 on the season. TSU had three base runners in the game. Amanda Buhler had a walk prior to a Caryn Barber single in third inning and Hollie Sanders had a seventh-inning single. APSU's Jennifer Simpkins led off the game with a double to left center and later scored on a Brianna Venable single. The Lady Govs scored an unearned run in the second and the final run scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. Justine Jontz, who pitched a 1-0 shutout for TSU on Friday, allowed one earned run in two innings before giving way to Alana Thomas who pitched the final five innings. TSU plays at first-year OVC member Samford on April 15.
