NASHVILLE --- Rain halted play of the second half of the double header between Tennessee State (12-25, 1-5 OVC) and Chattanooga (30-20, 5-1 SoCon) on Wednesday afternoon. The teams did complete the opener with rain picking up in the latter half of the game. The Lady Mocs defeated the Tigers in five innnings , 13-1. With two outs already on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, Chattanooga made its move. The Lady Mocs picked up four runs off four hits to go up, 4-0. They repeated the feat in the top of the second inning collecting four more runs. After watching Chattanooga put two more runs across in the top of the third inning, the Tigers answered back with a run of their own. Junior Caryn Barber (Santa Rosa, Calif.) got things started with a bunt and while the next batter fouled out, rookie Hollie Sanders (Columbia, Tenn.) knocked a single to left center. Senior Shannon Hicks (Smyrna, Tenn.) followed suit and smacked a double to left center sending Barber over the plate, making the score 10-1 in favor of the Lady Mocs. Chattanooga added one more in the fourth and two more in the fifth to further distance themselves. Two Lady Mocs notched triples (Teri Herbert and Robyn Johnson) while three recorded doubles (Grace Pickett, Stefani Thomas and Bryn Favor). The Tigers collected eight hits on the day and senior Alana Thomas (Bristol, Va.) threw the entire five innings of play.
