TIGER SOFTBALL FALLS TO PURDUE IN FINAL SACRAMENTO STATE TOURNEY GAME

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- The Tennessee State softball team ended its run at the 2004 Capital Classic hosted by Sacramento State on a disappointing note, falling on Sunday morning to Purdue. The final score was 3-0 in favor of the Boilermakers. The Tigers finish at the tournament 1-4 and fall to 10-16 overall. Purdue scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the bottom of the fourth to put away the Tigers. Junior Tarah Evanisko (Morgan Hill, Calif.) went 2 for 2 at the plate and also pitched four innings before being relived. In the circle, she collected two strikeouts. Senior Catriona Smith (Marion, N.C.) was tabbed the Tennessee State representative on the All-Tournament team. She recorded four hits and one run over the five games at the tournament. Tennessee State returns to action on March 23 as it takes on Sacramento State. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. PST.
