NASHVILLE --- Antionette Armstrong, a former two-year standout with the Tennessee State University softball team, has signed a contract to play with the Akron Racers of the Women's Professional Fastpitch League. Armstrong played with the Tigers from 2001-02 and earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors during her tenure with the Tigers. "We are extremely honored and proud that Net (Armstrong) will be representing Tennessee State University as a member of the WPFL Akron Racers," said TSU coach Joyce Maudie, who coached her for one season at TSU. "This is a dream come true for a young lady who has worked very hard to succeed on and off the softball diamond. We wish Net the best of luck in the Pro League and we are confident that her continued success will reflect well upon the softball program at TSU, as well as the OVC." A player capable of playing all the infield positions, Armstrong batted .398 as a junior and .314 her senior season. She finished with a career batting average of .353. She had 15 career doubles, 13 career triples, and eight home runs in her two seasons. Armstrong will report to the Racers in late spring. The WPFL season begins in early June. ###
