NASHVILLE --- Two Tennessee State softball players have received recognition from the Ohio Valley Conference for their play during the recently completed 2003 season. Third baseman Melissa Tofft was named to the All-OVC second team while first baseman Shannon Hicks was an honorable mention selection. The All-OVC team was selected by the OVC head coaches. Tofft, a junior, hit .303 within the conference and .289 overall for the season, serving primarily as the team's leadoff hitter. Tofft is opting for early graduation and will not return for her final season of eligibility. Hicks batted .308 with a home run and a team-high nine RBI within the OVC. She concluded the season by going 10-26 with six RBI over the team's final seven conference games. The conference office announced the team at an awards ceremony prior to the start of the OVC Tournament that is being hosted by regular season champion Tennessee Tech. ###
