ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tennessee State took a 2-1 victory over Morgan State in its opening game of the Winthrop Invitational Softball Tournament being held this weekend. Playing in one of the nation's largest tourney's with a field of 24 teams, the Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and held the lead until Lady Bears tied the game with their run in the fourth inning. TSU scored the game winner in the sixth frame. The two teams combined for seven hits. Each team committed a pair of errors. In TSU's second game, Providence scored three times in the first inning and three more times in the fourth on the way to defeating the Tigers 7-0. TSU was limited to four hits. The Lady Friars scored their seven runs on eight hits. The Lady Tigers continue their pool play with games against host Winthrop and Rutgers. TSU will return home on Monday to host Big 10 Conference member Purdue in a doubleheader.
