Teresa Phillips Announced Start of Scholarship Fund During Breakfast of Champions

NASHVILLE --- After officially announcing her retirement, Teresa Phillips shared her plans to start a scholarship fund at the Breakfast of Champions last week.

Phillips presented a check for $5,000 to Dr. Glover and the TSU Foundation then also announced that her son, Kyle Phillips, had committed to matching the donation.

The Teresa Lawrence Phillips Student-Athlete Completion fund is designed to bridge the gap and fund the “last dollar” post semester financial needs for TSU student athletes, up to $500 each, to graduate.

"As Athletics Director, one of the issues I am aware of is just how many student- athletes face the challenge of not progressing because of small funding gaps," said Phillips. "Sometimes, just a few hundred dollars is all that is standing between a student and his or her goal to progress to graduation."

Phillips will retire as Director of Athletics from TSU in June 2020. Upon hearing plans of her pending retirement, many heartfelt messages poured in: What They Are Saying.

Those interested in making a donation to the Teresa Lawrence Phillips Student-Athlete Completion fund can send contributions to the TSU Athletics Department.
