Dear TSU Family:
Thank you for making our 2017 Homecoming Celebration a tremendous success! It could not have happened without the entire Tennessee State University Family working together, students, faculty, staff and alumni. We are pleased to announce that our goal of $1 million dollars was met and exceeded. Alumni giving and sponsorships also increased. This means more financial support for our students.
However, it saddens me that we had to experience distractions, taking away from two of our largest activities, the TSU Homecoming Parade and the football game. Please note that neither of the incidents were associated with the University in any manner despite social media postings and local media accounts.
Police reports indicate that an incident took place on Jefferson Street during the parade. We still have conflicting reports about the origin of the disturbance. However, we are very fortunate that there were no reports of serious injuries due to panic and crowd size.
The second incident occurred at a local gas station near Nissan Stadium. Local authorities have a suspect in custody they believe is responsible for the disturbance. Unfortunately, several vehicles were damaged and the stadium was placed on lockdown for our safety
These are the times in which we should lean on each other for support. This is also a time where the ties that bind us together must become even stronger. On behalf of the entire Tiger Family, I ask that you not waiver in your support of any campus sponsored activities and mark your calendar for TSU Homecoming 2018. We will be announcing the date soon.
This is our University, our TSU! Together, we will continue to stand!
