NASHVILLE --- LaTroy Johnson has been named the Director of Equipment at Tennessee State University.
Johnson comes to Tennessee State from Morgan State where he served as the Director of Equipment Operations for nearly two years.
At Morgan State, he handled the day-to-day equipment operations for all of the Division I sports for the Athletic Department. He supervised and help to maintain all equipment budgets while ordering, storing, distribution, collection and sustaining all equipment. He also managed the student manager program and was the primary contact person between the department and Adidas.
With the Bears, Johnson was responsible for implementing new inventory software for the department.
Prior to his stint at Morgan State, he served as the Head Equipment Manager at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
No stranger to the Nashville area, Johnson spent five years as the Head Football Equipment Manager at Middle Tennessee (2007-12) after a two-year stint as the Director of Equipment Operations at South Carolina State University.
He got his start in the business as a student equipment manager at Clemson University from 2000-04.
A native of Orangeburg, S.C., Johnson is a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School Alumni Association. He graduated from Clemson University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management with a concentration in Sports Management. He has one son, Aaron LaTroy.
