Athletics Recognized at 2016 Community Service Awards

NASHVILLE --- Members of the Tennessee State University athletics department attended the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement’s 2016 Community Service Awards on Thursday.

A full-page tribute to the student-athletes for their community service efforts throughout the year was placed in the program while a large display was also exhibited at the luncheon.

TSU student-athletes, administrators and coaches have participated in a number of community service activities this academic year, including volunteering at Grace M. Eaton Learning Center, Lake Elementary School, the Nashville Humane Society, Second Harvest Food Bank, American Red Cross and others.

The luncheon began at 11 a.m. in the Barn on TSU’s main campus. Reverend Ken Bedell, Senior Advisor for the US Department of Education, was the guest speaker and Reverand Michele Morton provided the invocation.

Some of the awards presented during the ceremony were the Community Partner Awards, Undergraduate Student Service Award, Outstanding Service-Learning Project Award, Staff/Administrator Award and the Alumnus Award for Community Service.
