128 Student-Athletes Honored on Academic Night


--- On Wednesday, Feb. 10, the Tennessee State University Athletics Department recognized 128 student-athletes for their academic acheivements during halftime of the men’s basketball game versus Tennessee Tech.

11 Big Blue sports were represented, including football (43), softball (19), men’s track (12), women’s track (11), volleyball (8), men’s basketball (7), women’s basketball (7), men’s tennis (6), women’s tennis (5), women’s golf (5) and men’s golf (5).

To be recognized, the student-athletes had to maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher during the 2015 Fall semester.

Among the honorees were 26 student-athletes who obtained a 4.0 and were named to the President’s List. Additionally, with a 3.25 GPA, 68 earned AD’s List honors while 34 students made the Dean’s List with a 3.0.

Women’s golf (3.53) and men’s tennis (3.51) were recognized for earning the highest team GPA during the fall semester for small sports while men’s track (2.92) and softball (3.45) turned in the highest team GPA among the large sports.

This year's fall semester honoree total of 128 is an increase from last year's number of 95.
