NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The fall season is in full swing as the Tennessee State University football, volleyball and cross country teams will all compete in Nashville this week.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, the TSU cross country team heads to nearby Percy Warner Park for the Belmont Opener to begin the 2015 season. The women’s 5K is set to get underway at 9 a.m., followed by the men’s 5K at 9:30 a.m.
Back on campus after opening the year in Oxford, Miss., the TSU volleyball team hosts Samford at Kean Hall on Saturday at noon. The match will serve as the Freshman Social event where first-year Tigers are encouraged to attend the first on-campus athletic event of the 2015 fall season.
The annual John Merritt Classic, featuring the TSU football team taking on Alabama State at Nissan Stadium, is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. The event, which began in 1999, honors legendary TSU football coach John A. Merritt. The Tigers have gone 12-5 in the John Merritt Classic, including a 4-1 mark over the last five years.
