NASHVILLE --- On Thursday, Feb. 6, Tennessee State University student athletes were celebrated for their academic achievements during the fall semester.
96 student-athletes, who earned a 3.0 grade point average or higher during the 2013 Fall Academic Campaign, were presented with a Certificate of Academic Achievement during halftime of the TSU vs. Austin Peay men’s basketball game.
Director of Athletics, Teresa Phillips and Vice President of Academic Affairs Mark Hardy were on hand to greet the students and present them with their award. Dr. Johnnie Smith, Assistant AD for Academic Services, was also in attendance.
“I am so proud of the success that our student-athletes are experiencing in the classroom,” commented Dr. Smith. “Although the honors number continues to increase, I look forward to 100%. I am grateful to the academic staff, coaches and administration leadership for their support and making academics a priority.”
The following teams and number of student-athletes received recognition during halftime of the men's game: men's basketball (5), women's basketball (8), men' golf (5), women’s golf (6) volleyball (9), men's tennis (3), women's tennis (1), football (20), men's track and field (13), softball (7), and women's track and field (19).
