Tiger Feature: Dr. Johnnie Smith Recognized at the Women of Distinction Awards Program

Nashville --- TSU Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services, Dr. Johnnie Smith, was a recipient of the Education Development honor at the Women of Distinction Awards Program sponsored by the Clarksville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated.


Smith, a native of Fort Mitchell, Ala., was nominated and received the award in the category of “Education Development” on Saturday, March 7.


“This award means a lot to me, both personally and professionally.  I accept it with humility and gratitude as I reflect on the sacrifices of many past trailblazing women who've made it possible for me to have such an opportunity today,” commented Smith.


Other categories and winners include “Economic Development” won by business owner Carol Stevens, “International Awareness” won by business owner Dr. Jean Murphy, “Political Awareness” won by accountant, Cassandra Osborne and “Physical & Mental Awareness” won by army dentist, Dr. Tawanna McGhee.


“I am so thankful to God for giving me a gift to serve, inspire and encourage others in reaching their educational potential, and I am truly honored to be recognized as a promoter of education development for all age levels in my community.”
