Tigers Drop Fourth Loss to UT Martin

Tennis Stumbles 7-0 to UT Martin

Martin, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University Tiger tennis teams dropped their fourth straight and third conference game in a loss to UT Martin at the Skyhawk Tennis Courts on Sunday. The men loss 6-0 with the women fell 7-0. Both teams move to 0-4 on the season and 0-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The University of Tennessee at Martin men's tennis team improved their OVC mark to 2-0 and 4-4 overall while the women move to 6-4 on the season, with a perfect 2-0 conference slate.

The TSU team of Justin Hamm and Aaron Fields at No. 1, dropped 8-2 to Stephan Bruwer and Andrey Yesipov. To finish off the doubles point, Jaala Brooks and Michael Mosley loss to UT Martin's Alfredo Krywacz and Petr Markov, 8-1, at No. 2.

Down 3-0 due to defeats in the doubles, a forfeit and a match retired, at No. 1 in singles competition, Hamm loss (1-3) 6-0, 6-1 to Bruwer, while Fields (1-3) dropped 6-1, 6-1 to Krywacz. The Tigers only scored four game pointsin six games played on the day.

In the women's No. 1, TSU's Meagan Haynes and Penelope Johnson were downed 8-1 to Martie Wahl and
Marand Belisa de Brito. At No. 2, Teirra Sharpe and Lia Stewart could not fight back to even the competition, losing to UT Martin's Sara Leavy and Jodie Tiley 8-0. The Skyhawks completed the doubles sweep with Alycia Le Merle and Julianne McMeen with an 8-1 victory over Lezlie Knight and Cherrelle Coleman at No. 3.

The Tigers tried to fight back but dropped all seven singles' games scoring a total of six set points. Haynes (0-4) loss to Wahl , 6-1, 6-2 ,at No. 1. With Johnson going down 6-0, 6-0, to Leavy for number 2. 

The strongest Tiger performance cam via the number six match-up with UTM's McMeen victorious over Knight 6-1, 6-2.

Up Next for TSU, the Tigers will host Western Kentucky, Friday, March 20, with 3 p.m. scheduled for start time.
